What Data Does Live Highlighter Access?

Local Storage Only

Live Highlighter stores your highlight rules in your browser's local storage. This data:

  • ✅ Stays on your device
  • ✅ Is never transmitted to any server
  • ✅ Is never shared with third parties
  • ✅ Is only accessible to the extension

Web Page Content

To perform highlighting, Live Highlighter needs to:

  • Read text content on web pages you visit
  • Modify the appearance of matching text (add highlight colours)

Important: This content is processed entirely on your device and is never sent anywhere.

What Data We DON'T Collect

Permissions Explained

Live Highlighter requests the following browser permissions:

Storage Permission

Purpose: Save your highlight rules locally in your browser

Privacy impact: None - data stays on your device

Active Tab Permission

Purpose: Access the current page's content to apply highlights

Privacy impact: None - processing happens locally, no data is transmitted

Scripting Permission

Purpose: Inject highlighting code into web pages

Privacy impact: None - the code only applies visual highlights, doesn't collect data

Third-Party Services

We use zero third-party services:

  • No analytics (Google Analytics, etc.)
  • No error tracking (Sentry, etc.)
  • No CDNs
  • No external APIs
  • No advertising networks

Data Retention

Your highlight rules are stored indefinitely in your browser's local storage until you:

  • Delete them manually through the extension
  • Uninstall the extension
  • Clear your browser data

Uninstalling the Extension

When you uninstall Live Highlighter:

  1. The extension is removed from your browser
  2. All stored highlight rules are deleted
  3. No trace of the extension remains

Children's Privacy

Live Highlighter does not collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.
